Professor Iberê Luiz Caldas received the Ph.D. degree in physics from the Institute of Physics, University of São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil, in 1979. In 1977–1979, 1983, 1984, and 1988, he was a Guest Scientist at the Max-Planck Institute of Plasma Physics, in Germany. Since 1995, he has been a Full Professor on the IF-USP. For many years, he has investigated the nonlinear Hamiltonian dynamics of few and infinite degrees of freedom, and chaotic systems . He has been involved in basic and applied plasma physics problems. In the last years, he published articles on bifurcation theory applied to plasma physics and coupled nonlinear oscillators
